Our Venues

Theatre Whakatane Incorporated operates out of two performance venues, Gateway Theatre and Whakatane Little Theatre. Gateway Theatre, located at 30 Gateway Drive, Whakatane  is a boutique black box performance venue. Suitable for up to 150 patrons seated at tables, or 80 patrons for dinner shows, the recently developed venue is fully air conditioned to provide a warm and comfortable performance environment all year round.

Gateway Theatre

The venue (available for hire) has installed sound and performance lighting systems, and with a portable 36 square meter staging system the venue can be configured to suit whatever needs the user requires, from tiered seating onto a floor level performance zone, to a raised stage and floor level seating. Complemented with a kitchen and bar, the venue is ideal for conferences, weddings, as well as live performance. There is a smaller room also available, suitable for around 20 people, or as a break-out room for conferences.

Whakatane Little Theatre

The Whakatane Little Theatre is the Whakatane District Council theatre. Theatre Whakatane Incorporated use this venue for their major performances twice a year. Having a seating capacity of 271 seats, the 9 meter by 9 meter elevated stage has a manual fly tower, extensive wings, and an orchestra pit. Whilst the venue is not managed by Theatre Whakatane Incorporated, we can provide technical support as well as performance equipment for hire, including a large format projector, for users of the Little Theatre.
