Pink Hammer - A Kiwi Comedy That Nails It!

A Kiwi comedy that nails it!

Theatre Whakatāne is proud to be bringing New Zealand comedy “The Pink Hammer” to Gateway Theatre in May.

Written by New Zealand actress, poet and playwright, Michele Amas, “The Pink Hammer” is outrageous, laughter filled and heart-warming.

The inaugural Pink Hammer Workshop is an absolute disaster!

Annabel, Helen, Louise and Siobhan turn up, looking forward to learning carpentry skills from a pioneering, female furniture maker… but Maggie has absconded with their money, so there’s no-one there but Maggie’s furious husband, Woody, an out-of-work, disgruntled builder who’s less than impressed to find four women in his man cave. Not the sort of women to back down from a challenge, the group convince Woody to teach them the tricks of the trade in this hilarious and heart-warming Kiwi comedy that’ll have you doubled over in laughter.

Back in the director’s seat, Scott Jarrett has cast five wonderful people who are portraying incredible characters.

Louise (Nicole Domett) moved home to care for her parents. She has many dark shadows in her life and is easily spooked.

Siobhan (Jess Armstrong) lives with her cousin and works at the local vet clinic. She is in love with her boss, who has extraordinary hands, but is married.

Annabel (Bronwen Foxx) is an assertively feminist counsellor, and unable to express her thoughts in anything other than counselling jargon.

Helen (Trish Marsden) is a sarcastic and decidedly anti the “bring-a-plate” culture of New Zealand womanhood horse breeder, just there to learn how to build her own coffin.

Woody (Steve McAdams) is a grumpy Kiwi bloke blackmailed into providing carpentry lessons for the group of women who invade his man-cave.

Jarret says that “it is an honour to direct this production. “The Pink Hammer” has been well received throughout New Zealand and has been very popular with audiences. I am glad that it is now time to share this with local audiences. Do come along, it won’t let you down!”

“The Pink Hammer” is on stage at Gateway Theatre, 30 Gateway Drive, Whakatāne from 17-27 May 2023. Tickets available from iticket.co.nz and Whakatāne iSite.

Warning: Dialogue includes strong language which may offend some people.
